Job detail

CAE Engineer for Cable Harnesses

When a door opens, an axle moves, or a robotic assembly line starts up, the wiring harness begins to bend, twist, and undergo stress. And that’s where you come in. We’re looking for someone who already has at least some experience working with IPS Cable Simulation and enjoys identifying problems before they appear in a prototype or during testing. You won’t be creating presentations or rewriting Excel spreadsheets. You’ll be solving real technical problems and finding the best cable harness routing for automotive projects.

What are you gonna do?

  • Simulate cable harnesses in IPS Cable Simulation.
  • Address their behavior when doors, axles, seats, engine vibrations, or other moving parts of the vehicle are in motion.
  • Look for collisions and critical points where cables are subjected to excessive stress.
  • Propose adjustments to the routing of bundles, the length of branches, or the placement of clamps.
  • Collaborate with designers who prepare CAD data in CATIA.
  • Compare simulation results with data from measurements and tests.
  • Communicate with development teams and advocate for technical solutions.

‍

Who are we looking for?

You'll probably relate to this if:
  • You have a degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on applied mechanics, mechatronics, or vehicle design.
  • Have you had any practical experience with the IPS Cable Simulation system, or with other tools for simulating flexible systems and cable harnesses (e.g., FlexTrack, Abaqus, Ansys, or similar CAE/MBD tools)?
  • You have experience in automotive development.
  • You know how to work with CAD data and prepare a model for simulation.
  • You can communicate in English or German at the B1 level.

‍

What will come in handy for you?

You don't have to meet all of these requirements, but if you have experience with any of them, it's definitely an advantage:
  • SW IPS Cable Inspector, Abaqus, or Ansys Mechanical
  • CATIA V5/V6 Electrical Harness
  • LDorado, EB Cable

‍

What do you think you'll enjoy about this role?

  • It's not a conventional design, nor is it traditional CAE. It falls somewhere in between.
  • You'll be figuring out how the wiring harness actually behaves when in motion—whether it's rubbing anywhere, is over-tensioned, bends more than it should, or whether it can't be installed. You'll often identify problems during the design phase, which will save you a lot of time and money in subsequent development stages.
  • And since there aren't many IPS specialists, you'll gain access to a relatively unique set of skills that has long been in demand in the market.
  • You'll go from simulation all the way to a technical discussion of the design and the search for the optimal solution.
  • You'll work with designers, engineers, and testing teams, and you'll see how your results are incorporated into the final product.
