Life in DEVINN

A developer in the male world of cars and technology

Karolína has been involved in the pre-development of assistance systems at DEVINN for two years. There's definitely no dullness with this pretty blonde. She travels and writes a travel blog. She loves to cook, so she even completed her apprenticeship in cooking. She's into pole dancing and adrenaline sports.

In the almost masculine world of technical development, she definitely doesn't get lost or fit in.

Kaya, what exactly is meant by Pre-development of assistance systems? What are you specifically responsible for?

You can think of smaller projects in the area of assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control or lane keeping. Our "development" scope is quite broad, and these examples are just a fraction of what is technically known as Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

Part of my job is obviously on the computer, but I also get to try new technologies and try them out, which is very interesting for me because I like to learn new things. I really enjoy it.

Cooperation with colleagues and customers, seeking synergies and tuning projects to benefit everyone is also diverse. Even after two years, my work still surprises me in a positive way.

Do you like cars? I do. 😊 And I also like planes and tuk-tuks.

Why planes and tuk-tuks?

Flyingis my hobby. In my free time I do paragliding. I fell in love with tuk-tuks during my trips to Asia, where they are very popular. I have a lot of great experiences from my trips with them.

Inaddition to your diploma from the Czech Technical University, you also have a teaching certificate in the field of cook - waiter. What made you do it?

Cooking has been my hobby since childhood. I loved (and still love) to spend my free time in the kitchen. During my master's studies I had more free time, so it seemed like a good idea to finish my culinary apprenticeship. I took it as an opportunity to take my hobby to the next level, gain professional knowledge and look into professional kitchens. I think it's important to know how to do some work with your hands as well. Although, of course, you don't need a teaching certificate for that. Plus, you never know what will happen and what to expect.

How do you think these two professions differ or complement each other?

Equal in both professions is the strong influence of colleagues on how satisfied you are at work. I'm very lucky to have colleagues in the kitchen and in pre-development, so I like both. The feedback is different - in the kitchen you get it almost immediately. You see an empty plate and the diners can also tell you directly if they were happy. In pre-development, we have to wait months or years for feedback. But the two professions complement each other perfectly. After a day in the kitchen, my head clears up nicely and I can think more clearly about my work tasks in pre-development.

You're the only woman on the pre-development team. Do your colleagues pamper you, or do you kind of take care of them? Do you cook them something sometimes?😊

My colleagues pamper me and at the same time they can make fun of me, so we have a balance. 😊 If we have an event together, the food is automatically my responsibility. But the boys help me out a lot and are on hand.

We've already had a Mexican and burger party together, we've also grilled. Sometimes I get a message about what the meat was prepared with, that they would like to cook it at home. Which is of course a pleasure. 😊

Caroline, you travel, you write travel blogwhich is full of powerful experiences, you're into adrenaline sports. Are strong experiences your motivation?

I generally like to explore new things and countries. And strong experiences are somehow spontaneously accompanying this, you don't even have to look for them.

However, with my activities, I guess I'm going against them. When I travel to countries like Mexico alone. Occasionally, I'm a classic blonde, I don't think something through and the experience is over - a prime example is my unwanted "bribing" of a customs officer in Mexico... and I just wanted to bring back a tortilla maker as a souvenir. 😊

But the truth is that in paragliding every climb is a very powerful experience. So in this case, the adrenaline is actually the motivation. 😊
