Hydrogen and electromobility

We powered the stage again at Rock for People. This time with green hydrogen and for 35,000 visitors

The summer months traditionally bring a slightly different pace of work for us at DEVINN, as we power music festivals and other events with our H2BASE hydrogen generator. The collaboration with Rock for People is traditionally the most intense in its scope, which makes us all the more honored that it is becoming a tradition.

After last year's premiere, when we powered the conference stage for Rock for People Hope with an attendance of around 7,000 people, the attendance for this year's full-fledged edition jumped to 35,000 visitors. This was reflected in both attendance and needed subscriptions, which - even though our job was to feed the same stage as last year - went up a bit.

MAJOR NEWS: RENEWABLY PRODUCED HYDROGEN

Because we know that a repeated joke is no longer a joke, we wanted to try something new again after the world premiere of Hydrogen at a music festival last year. That's why we approached a few Czech suppliers with a somewhat unique request - to source green hydrogen as an energy source for the event. This request was successfully completed together with the Czech division of Air Products.

"The green hydrogen produced by Air Products through electrolysis using wind energy has been certified by the CertifHy pan-European GO system for a transparent market for low-carbon and renewable hydrogen," said Zuzana Janatová, hydrogen development manager at Air Products. More than 90% of this hydrogen is produced by wind power plants.

TRAFFIC? NO PROBLEM

And how did we manage with our H2BASE? Compared to last year, when we had one outage, we did absolutely fine. "H2BASE worked flawlessly. It fed the lights, sound and screen, and it did so seamlessly even for the bigger shows," says Michal Thomes, Rock for People Festival Director.

Because of the very sensitive sound engineering we decided to get a UPS station for this year's event, which took care of stabilizing the output current. This further improved the service we provided.

OTHER HYDROGEN PLANS

On the surface, it may look like we are done with big events for this year, but the opposite is true. These days our team together with representatives of Ameba - the organizers of Rock for People - are leaving for Poland, where H2BASE should power the same stage as in Hradec. But this time at the biggest Polish music festival Open'er.

A bright future also awaits Park360, the Hradec Králové venue where Rock for People takes place every year. According to Jan Freidinger from the Ameba team, the entire festival, and therefore also Park360, where the event takes place, should be self-sufficient by 2030 and all stages should be powered by renewable energy sources.

"Within the park we would like to build, for example, several solar power plants on the roofs of the hangars, which will 'collect' energy for all the events that take place here. So even the big stage that is here this year, we would like to be powered by this energy by 2030, without emissions," Freidinger told Czech Radio. And this project is also counting on hydrogen as an energy medium.
